Fat Science Podcast doing the Lords work of scaring people away from Compounded meds

According to Google, 10-23 people have ever died from compounded GLP-1s. That number is unverified. Yet, 1.16 to 1.19 million people worldwide die EVERY YEAR from car accidents. Don't see anyone out there trying to stop car sales.

I think an even better comparison is how many of us who suffer from excess weight who would have died or clogged up hospital waiting rooms with the resulting cardio-vascular and musculo-skeletal consequences are so much healthier as a result of access to compounded GLPs.

I think the biggest disservice Fat Scientist and Dr Cooper have done is failing to address compounded use. They vilify it, dismiss it, but it would serve their listener base MUCH more to, for instance, do an episode on how to make sure your telehealth choice for compounding is a good one. Not everyone is rich, not everyone can afford an obesity specialist, so compounded is it for many. So use your influence in the space to actually make a difference about that. What a waste not to.

This thread gave me an idea for a new thread. I like people taking there health into there own hands.

Proactive medicine for health

What rx medications can be taken proactively for your health and wellbeing? In USA you have to be an advocate of your own health. Rx meds are advertized to patients, so they ask there dr. for perscriptions. I am starting to compile a short list for myself and figured other might be interest in...

Obviously you can go grey for cheaper, but $26 is nothing and worth the peace of mind, in my opinion.

This forum might not exist if we could get $26 copays or even if we could buy the medicine for $260. The DC politicos should look in a mirror, point at the mirror and say "This mess is 100% my fault."

Improving the health of the most people possible is a fine concept but what idiot cares about that? Extracting the most amount of money possible from the market. Now that is what Wee Willy really cares about.

I am glad that some have access to a $260 medication with a $26 copay.

Alot of fatness influencers dont want to lose you as a repeat customer. Same reason that lady from the extreme weightloss show hates on glps. Pharma and insurance are the same way. Why fix the issue if i can keep these calorically challenged sentient sofas alive just enough to buy our meds. And pay the insurance to only cover some of it. I mean. Thats not even going into govt. The worse thing you can ever hear is "were the government and were here to help". Was it the tuskegee syphillis study or the rampant thalidomide use in the 40s? Or maybe the monsters study in iowa? Idk do i trust grey market entirely? No. But do i trust anything going on around the rest of the globe? Nah. Atleast i can test and verify this flavor of bullshit. If you believe in third party testing. . .

Hey I don't want to come across as naive but what the hell is a fat influencer? Someone who encourages people to get fat?

Body positivity people. Fit at any size. And other delusional bullshit lol you got fitness influencers. Well you all got fatness influencers who wanna keep you as big as a bus

Like any drug that people really want, like opiates or cocaine or GLP's, a black market will develop if possible and the existing market if there is one, does not work for them or excludes them. To me GLP drugs are more or less life saving necessities, but I cannot afford anything other than low dose ozempic that makes me feel awful. The demand for weight loss drugs that actually work is absolutely enormous, and the vast majority cannot afford them at retail prices. And the drug companies selling them are not going to drop their prices until they are forced to by large scale government bargaining or new products competing against them. Their primary obligation is to maximise shareholder return, not improve public health.

The difference between GLP drugs and the more addictive ones, is that overall the health consequences of the grey and black market supply of them is probably still significantly beneficial, even despite all the unintentional overdoses, mistakes, mislabelled and contaminated peptides etc. The improvement in quality of life and prevention of thousands of cases of diabetes and heart attacks easily outweigh those adverse effects.

It's crazy to me, since it's the same exact medicine, coming from the same company (Eli Lilly), just sold in a different country.

I enjoy the Fat Science podcast overall, as it has helped this far-from-obese person understand obesity as a metabolic disease, and not a willpower problem. I don't feel that Andrea Taylor adds anything of value to the podcast, as Mark and Dr. Cooper do all the heavy (no pun intended) lifting. And yeah, their unwillingness to acknowledge/accept why folks go gray in search of GLP1's rankles me a bit, but I do appreciate the education I get.
