How long have you taken Reta without a break?

Just wondering how long people have taken Reta without a break. Does it become too ineffective after a fair while? Any other symptoms or side effects from long term use? I realise there are a number of side effects that are common with people starting out and as they titrate up. But wondering more about long term effects. I see some people drop the dose and go into maintenance mode for a while. Love to hear any input , especially from the longer term users. Thanks to everyone.

10 months. It's remained effective at any dosage. All major sides went away after a couple months. I've been as high as 12 mg, and I'm now down to 8 mg and will try maintaining at 6 mg long term, but we'll see how it goes. I did try a week at 6 mg already, but by pin day the hungries came back. Once I'm at 6 mg, I'll probably split dose to see if that evens things out.

Splitting the dose is how I do it I just started a month ago but it definitely seems to help.

Once I got to 4 mg as I was titrating up, once a week worked well. On the way back down, not so much, but it makes sense since I was used to higher levels over a long period of time.

The way I see it is it is a very long term, likely forever treatment, except if you are not obese to start with. There are a lot less long term reta studies yet, but sema and tirz both have amazingly beneficial long term effects, and these almost certainly will apply to reta, so staying on it is not bad for you, it will reduce the odds of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, strokes, cancers, maybe even dementia, and in general the more obese, older and less generally healthy you are the more significant these effects are. There is even some evidence from epigenetic aging marker studies that they slow the aging process itself down.

So assuming you are overweight with any health issues or obese , staying on it is good for you, and if at high risk staying on high doses is better than low doses. Apart from those reasons, ideally with reta or any GLP you really only need to lose the weight one last time, and then just stay on it to keep the weight off, it is almost really that simple. Most people who stop GLP's after losing weight will regain the weight. Some people seem to want to use lower maintenance doses, which is a good idea if there are side effects or you are not at high risk of diabetes or heart disease, and some people do keep the weight off on lower doses. But at the more severe end of obesity there are very good reasons to stay on full doses long term or permanently, if side effects are not a problem.

If the extra weight is short term or situational, like extra kilos after an injury where you could not exercise for a long time, and you lose the weight and re-establish very healthy eating patterns and exercise patterns that you succeed in integrating into your life as well established habits, and do not have to consciously control how much you eat to not regain weight, then you may not need to stay on them, but as far as I can tell this is genuinely rare. For most people obesity is a very long term problem.

7 months, no breaks. It's been great for me, no real side effects. I guess sleep is my only issue, and this getting up at 4AM might be habit at this point. I did 4 weeks on a certain dose, once a week. Started at 2mg and slowly worked to to 9mg. I'm going on a maintenance dose and started 6mg on Friday. We'll see what happens. I stay on this stuff forever.

I've been on it for 10 months weekly, started at 1 mg a week and I have worked my way up to 8 mg. I have not taken it for 16 days now because I have developed my first large kidney stone and it has taken forever to pass. I just passed it last night and will likely resume at 4 or 6 mg this week. I have lost more than 90 lb so I think I'm going to try to find my maintenance dose. I will say that over the last 16 days I have been able to maintain my weight without gaining, other than fluid retention with the kidney stone. And my appetite has not been completely overwhelming. So that is encouraging for maybe eventually weaning off of it completely.

Probably 2ish years for me. Maintenance for 1.5ish at the same dose, just with less frequency. Going to step down a bit this week as I still seem to be losing every 6 months or so unintentionallly and am about 10lbs below my goal weight.

Consider the Orgf / Oral Glp-1 a-la-carte in conjunction with the lower dose....it's worked, very well, for me thus far. They both target the receptors a bit differently. I want to stay on a low-dose- maintenance forever as well, everything I see about completely quitting seems to indicate a loss of efficacy once you restart.
