Has anyone else experienced bloating from reta?

I've been on reta for 2 months. When starting, I could see my 6 pack, but now it's just massive bloat with no 6 pack visible at all. I go to the toilet regularly, so it's not constipation. I have been following a keto diet for many years, but always sitting around 20% bodyfat. I'm in my late 40s, and on medication that seems to prevent me from losing anymore weight, which is why I tried reta.

I went on holiday recently and looked like crap due to the bloat, but when I came back (after not taking reta for over a week), I could see my 6 pack again, and looked reasonably lean. Now after a few days back on reta, the bloat is back, and again, I cannot see any 6 pack. My stomach looks distended.

I have been reading up on it, and several have mentioned enzymes, probiotics and berberine, all of which I have just purchased and will start tomorrow.

TBH, I am kind of relieved it is not fat gain and only bloating, but it is still concerning.

My reta protocol is 2mg/week (1mg Mon/Thurs).

Th only time I get any bloating is when I get the sulphur gas buildup in my stomach. Since I been taking a probiotic every day, it doesn't happen anymore.

Not for me, glp's are known to reduce inflammation from my understanding.

20% bf usually means no abs. Either way I’ve had zero bloat from Reta. Are you taking anything else?

I could still see my abs at 30% bodyfat. You would be surprised how lean I look at 20% bodyfat.

Hopefully the probiotics, enzymes, and berberine help with the bloating.

I think it has to do with the slowing of gastric emptying and the fermentation of food, causing a build-up of gases in the gut.

Nothing to do with inflamation.

I was having acid reflux starting around week 2. I found pickled red cabbage to be very helpful. I make it myself - ACV, water, sugar, and red cabbage. I no longer have the acid reflux issue but I am experiencing bloating, not great for beach season 🙁

Whenever i felt bloated it was somehow related to not going to the bathroom enough . Miralax is your friend on glp1s. Thins everything out so you dont have it built up in your system. If you arent drinking a gallon of water minimal a day. You probably arent peeing enough either.

The only time I got bloating from reta was when

1. I had lactose (im lactose intolerant)

2. Had too much oil on my meals

If youre basis for bloating is seeing and not seeing your abs that sounds more like water retention than bloating.

If your abs are visible, bloating would just extend your belly but your abs will still be visible. Your abs only go away from fat build up and water retention not bloating imo.

I had some bloated feeling for a few weeks and heart burn on shot night. Those two things are long gone. Actually those are really the only side effects I ever had.

Last weekend I forgot to take my probiotic and I got the sulfur burps for 3 days. 😵‍💫

I have started taking probiotics, and feel a little better already. I am also taking enzymes and berberine though.

I feel you.

The bloating is terrible for beach season. Working on it as we speak.

I have no problem going to the toilet for number 1 or 2.

It seems to be a gas build up from fermentation gases due to the slow gastric emptying.

I doubt it's water retention, because the bloating only occurs around my midsection, the rest of my body is leaning out pretty well.

It's not fat, because it happened in a matter of 2-3 days (from lean to bloat). I take electrolytes throughout the day and drink about a gallon of water, and urinate regularly (normal).

I do think it is a gas build up, but do not rule out other causes.

Could try soluble fiber sources and prune juice. The natural sorbitol tends to move things through my system faster. Less time it stays in your gut the less id imagine it would cause that?

True. I should look into a good source of fibre to take with my meals.

You can have water retention at just parts of your body some just have it on their belly, some on their feet or face. I just came to that conclusion coz you said your abs are visible and it goes away. Bloating doesnt do that. If your abs are visible it remains visible because bloating is internal. Its like when you have abs and you eat a lot, your abs don't go away it just protrudes.

Whenever I had water retention in the past, I would see it most noticeably in the neck and face.

I am not ruling out water retention, and I am grateful for the suggestion.

I just think it's more likely gas bloating. I constantly feel full, and can feel the food lying in my stomach/upper abdomen.

It also could be a combination of both.

I need to look into this further.

Thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT:

After discussing with ChatGpt, it suggests that it could be a combination of:

1. Retained food and fluid in the stomach/upper GI tract.

2. Gas contributing to the issue (due to fermentation).

ChatGpt also said that it's not likely to be systemic water retention (my thoughts) or fat accumulation.
