Food noise reduction VS appetite suppression. Please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks it's different issues?

Sitting on the couch at 10p and watching Europeans eat American BBQ on YouTube creates food noise. Getting a craving for some carbs because I’ve trained hard and probably haven’t consumed enough could be considered food noise but I think it’s biological feedback in that context. My unwillingness to eat those additional carbs is from hunger suppression.

How I look at it anyway.

Reta killed my food noise - my desire to bottom out my cupboards every night. Id frequently stuff 6000cals while in a cut and then sulk about it for the next 5 days. I actually had 3 triangles of a toblerone earlier today and put the rest back, I have never done this before in my life.

Reta hasnt killed my apetite - I still get hungry at meal times, although I do get fuller faster.

Hello, 1st actual post after my intro, be gentle.

I've been on T for a while now and while I don't have any hunger issues, never had before either, I do suffer from constant food noise and habitual/compulsive eating patterns. I read that Tirz helps with addictions too and decided to try it first.

I am noticing appetite suppression on tirz, but I still eat because it's habitual. And by eat I mean binge..It feels horrible but I'm used to overeating even if I'm full and it's all because of food noise, not actual appetite. However, when I see discussions on this people seem to use both concepts interchangeably and now I'm not sure if I can trust any online discussion on this.

Been looking into Cagri, but again, people say it's for food noise but then I see it gives you nausea and you never feel hungry which is just not the same. I want my cravings, the constant food chatter, the dopamine chasing gone, hunger I don't care as much. I can have less or keep it the same but as long as the noise doesn't go that won't matter much.

I’m also new, but experienced intense satiety immediately on Reta at 2mg and a weird food noise reduction (weird in the sense that it was completely new to me). I can walk past the cookies, sweet desserts, fried chicken fingers and French fries that the family left out and keep on walking without sticking some in my mouth. I <know> that it’s strange in that I will look at that food and think that it’s strange that I’m not eating any.

Maybe it the meds, maybe it’s the placebo of being on the meds and seeing other results. Like most chemicals that affect your brain, it’s hard to know. I’m happy with the results so far and look forward to seeing how it continues or changes with increasing dosages and time.

so happy for you! did you try another GLP-1 before or was reta the 1st? and do you think you could've had this happen before or were you sure only now after 4 months?

Reta is the first and only GLP-1 I've used. I'm not sure about the second question, I just acted on intuition and what seemed right in the moment.

It’s extremely liberating to be honest with you, I didn’t expect it to have this much of an impact.

First GLP and yes pretty instant, I took it at 9pm ish and I could feel it the morning after.

Lasts about 5 days or so for now while I’m still in the half life loading phase.

Food noise for me is planning for the next meal while eating, thinking about leftovers in the fridge or treats in the break room, and having to take the long way around at the grocery store so I don't see my favorite snacks.

Appetite is being ready for lunch an hour too early, not being full after eating a normal portion, and not being able to fall asleep while my stomach is growling. People who have never had these issues will tell you "oh, you just eat until you're not hungry instead of until you're full" - well that's 🐮💩 because if I only eat enough to take the edge off of hunger, I'll be ravenous again an hour later.

Tirz and later Reta solved all of it for me. I tried adding Cagri but didn't notice any difference, likely because the suppression was good enough already. Reta gives me the extra burn on top of the suppression, but it does increase my HR so I'll switch back to Tirz when I eventually get to maintenance.

Totally agree they’re different. I had amazing reduction with both on Tirz and with Reta my appetite is still suppressed but my cravings are still there a lot. I’ve continued to lose weight though and I’m trying to use it as a real chance to change my relationship with food…moderation and all that. But it’s hard

I know that many folks have written similar things to you about appetite suppression being different than food noise suppression. For me personally, I don’t notice a difference.

While food noise is a relatively new concept and is not an established medical term, research studies are starting to conceptualize and test the construct. Most of those studies see food noise and hunger as two related but distinct concepts.

The literature is fairly insistent on this, food noise is best understood not as a sensation of hunger but as a cognitive phenomenon, a form of maladaptive prospection in which the brain repeatedly simulates short-term reward scenarios in conflict with long-term goals. The tell is that people describe intrusive, cue-triggered mental preoccupation with food even in the absence of physiological need. For example, thinking about your next meal while still eating the current one. You can be full and still have loud food noise; you can be genuinely hungry with a quiet mind. Different axes.
