Hi all, I've started succumbing to the dark side 🙂

I have a Greenlight prepaid debit card with funds available, trying to buy crypto to pay vendors that only accept BTC/LTC. Running into blocks everywhere.

What I've tried:

Direct crypto purchases:

  • MoonPay: Declined (prepaid cards not supported)
  • Strike: "Invalid merchant" error
  • Coinbase via bank transfer: Account suspended
Bank transfers:

  • Ally Bank: Transfers suspended (Greenlight blocking external bank transfers)
App transfers:

  • CashApp: "Please try again later" after 24hr security cooldown
  • Currently waiting to retry CashApp tonight
What DOES work:

  • Card works fine for regular purchases
  • Greenlight support says only PayPal/Venmo/Apple Pay/CashApp approved for transfers
  • But CashApp keeps declining
The goal: Get $70-80 from Greenlight → any crypto (BTC, LTC, whatever) → send to vendor wallet

Has anyone successfully bought crypto with Greenlight or similar prepaid cards? Any workarounds I'm missing?

Thanks!

I have tried a different prepaid visa (from myprepaidcard . com) and have struggled trying to find a way to use it for pep purchases as well. I have tried the direct paypal route, that gets blocked. I have tried alipay, blocked. Have tried to use to to buy crypto as a debit, also blocked. I would love to hear if anyone has found a workaround.

I may have advanced things slightly - I did the following: sign up to Cash App- then using the Greenlight debit card, purchased about $73 to the Cash App, then, after that was achieved, and the money was now 'free' from the prepaid card, I bought BitCoin - and then , (I first tried Exodus - but it seemed to suck - then I discovered Blue Wallet - a dedicated BitCoin app)

And in Cash App chose the 'free' option (takes 24 hours to achieve) and cut n pasted the necessary Blue Wallet BitCoin address... and now I'm waiting to see if it all goes smoothly -as if the Cash App->Blue Wallet-> will hopefully allow the response from crypto place 'X' to go through. We'll see.. but there're many ways to skin a cat (sorry cats 🙂

I've never used a prepaid card but I use PayPal to send funds to exodus then buy what ever crypto the vender prefers. I can't say I've ever encountered any road blocks I suspect it is all related to the restrictions the green light card has on their end.
