Hello,
Woman in her 40's here, United States.
My primary reason for taking a GLP-1 RA is not weight loss but rather reducing inflammation due to a genetic condition in which damage from neuroinflammation plays a huge role. I've seen promising research into the effects of GLP-1's and reduction of inflammation, and while I know it's not the primary reason most people take it, it's the big driver for me.
Secondary reason is to support nicotine cessation; again, there is some promising effects noted of GLP 1's on addictive substances such as nicotine and alcohol. I don't really drink, but nicotine has been near impossible for me to quit.
Related, and third, is, admittedly supporting maintenance of a lean physique. It's not a goal of weight loss, but to make maintenance more tolerable and reduce food noise during periods of stress, menstrual cycle, etc. I'm happy with my physique where it's at (thanks to weight training) but maintaining it the "old fashioned way" sometimes feels like playing on hard mode. This girl can EAT.
I'm starting my first dose of reta on Monday, and I went ahead and got my fasting insulin, A1C, and CRP drawn prior to the first dose to have something of a baseline for insulin sensitivity and inflammation (I don't have results yet). I'll also track any fluctuations in weight and resting heart rate. I'm interested in and learning about other peptides that might help with neuroinflammation and cognitive health, so TBD on whether I will add anything else.
I have to admit, even only with one very small dose and a few days under my belt, I've noticed almost immediate effects on food noise and nicotine cravings (still using, just less urgency). Only downside so far is mild GI symptoms and early satiety, which is to be expected. Over the past couple of days I'm still able to fit in my target 110 grams of protein and around 2000-2200 Calories per day. I just didn't feel like I COULD eat 5000+ Calories.
Reta dose: 0.5 mg
Weekly doses: 1
Weight Change: ∆-0.4# (goal is maintenance)
Resting Heart Rate (average past month): vs. baseline 54 bpm
Baseline A1C: vs. baseline tbd
Baseline fasting insulin: vs. baseline tbd
Baseline CRP: vs. baseline tbd
