Typical me! Last week bought 3 pieces Nordic NovoPen 6 pens to use with my peptides, without knowing that Novopen can only be used with its own prefilled insuline cartridges. Actually, when you search behind a Novopen there is also no information about that at webshops. I was charmed with nice look and its nfc connection with the app.

Opened a box with exicetement upon receiving and tried to place a cartridge. But it wasn't possible. After reading the user manual, I knew that I made a mistake. Contacted webshop and explained the situation. Reaction was positive. I could send unopened boxes for retour and they would pay me back. I had to keep the opened one.

I like buying such stuff. But hate wasting money. I could give it to anybody, if I knew somebody who uses Novopen. But none. Yesterday I had some free time and took a better look in it.

First of all cut front part of a used disposible pen, adjusted it to exact size of Novopen and glued with loctite to make it possible to use with standard pen needles. Thickness of standard cartridges was the second problem. But I was lucky. Because only a 1mm breed and 1/2 mm high part in cartridge holder was making it impossible. Filing that part has solved that problem and cartridge could be placed inside. Reassambled the pen. But there was an other problem. Pump wasn't moving out of its place. After inspecting the mechanism, discovered that the standard cartridges were shorter. Made a 2 mm thick spacer from a used ballpen housing and placed it behind the cartridge. All of the problems were solved and could be used with standard cartridges and needles.

May be buying a Novopen and modifying is not such a good idea. But can be a good solution for anybody who made the same fault as me.

Nice work!

Looks like fun, have you tested it for dosing?

Tested working with a half full old cartridge and it works. But did not test dosing yet. I will fill a cartridge with 3ml water and test it tomorrow. I will let you know

I would expect dosing to be off , as the cartridge sizes are different and the amount dispensed (plunger movement) is set to the novo catridge. This causes it to overdose.

At the moment I am 20 hours awake and have been 14 hours long working. I will check it tomorrow.

There are people who make adapter kits that have a spacer and front end piece to allow use of novo6. Simple 3d printed parts. People making boxes and accessories with 3d printers in Etsy - as example.

I have seen a video of someone using a slow dremel to sand down inside the novo cylinder - so a wider generic cartridge can slide in. The diameter, being wider on the generic cartridges means the same plunger distance has a higher volume of liquid discharged. So do test a few to get a calibration.

Nice DIY. Those are slick pens.

I bought a Novopen echo plus which came with the newest "npmax" 3d printed all in one cartridge carrier. It was a little too small/not snug enough and got a bit cock-eyed after a few injections.

So I switched to an Etsy provider's 3d printed screw cap and spacer and used a 15/32" drill to remove the ridge. The 3d parts looked crummy, but they fit and work great and the vendor threw in vial caps and tic tacs and some cologne packet thing which was nice. Made me think of friends in Turkey.

I tested it at about 10% over, but it is a really nice pen.

It is pointless fun to download the injection data even if it comes with all the priming and fiddling and only deletes when it rolls over at like a zillion shots.

Just tested it and Novopen injects same dosage as a standard pen. Cartridge filled with 2.5ml water and injected 250iu as 5x50iu back in 3ml syringe. It was each time 50 iu back in the syringe and last one was 48iu which may be lost during pushing excess air out.

Dosage is same. Using spacer in front of the cartridge is not an option. Needle is not long enough to penetrate rubber at that distance.

Thickness difference between cartridges is most probably at glass thickness.

Liquid level on the pen scale shows 2mm less. But same amount liquid can also be seen under last stripe of pen scale.

Tested it today and it is the same dosage as a standard pen. See my response above

Thanks mate. I checked it. 13 euro voor the adapter and 21 euro shipping. I have paid 50 euro voor Novopen 6. I made the same adapter and spacer for free from scratch and they are ok. Did not spend more than a half hour time in total to fix it. Money is not an issue. But it must be worth of its price. Should consider it, if I could not succeed.
