RIP Glen Hansard

He was one of the best buskers I've ever seen, as well as a stand up human being. I was fortunate enough to meet him and chat with him for a few minutes after a Swell Season show with Iron and Wine in Albuquerque in 2008. It was a magical night for all four of us who went to that show together that we are all reflecting on with heavy hearts all these years later. Even if you immerse yourself deeply in music, his was a rare talent.

Oh yes, I'm well acquainted with his talent. I saw "Once" twice in the theaters and then bought the dvd, but being a singer myself, the music is what made it stick to me, even all these years later.
 
Its awful news alright. He's a huge loss for Irish culture and traditional music here, a gifted and gentle man who will be dearly missed. 🙏🏻

Iron and Wine toured with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Swell Season) in 2008. Iron and Wine is amazing too; it was a magical night for all of us.
 
Once is such an amazing film. I rented the DVD and watched the behind the scenes, and Glen and his co-star were not actors, but starred because of their immense musical talent…and it’s some of the best, most impactful acting I’ve ever seen. Maybe the best musical of all time. What a loss: for his loved ones, for Ireland, for anyone who can appreciate beauty.
