I turned 60 in April. I have been lifting regularly for the past few years. But I can tell my age (and probably muscle loss from Tirz) are taking its toll. I come home from doing a one mile walk and lifting and I am shot for the rest of the day anymore.

I have always used JEFit to build/track my routines but I am wondering if I need to switch to something that can take my age into consideration with my workouts. I look on the App Store and most everything is for chair exercises. I mean no offense to anyone, but I am not at that point. I still want to lift, but need adjustments made.

Any suggestions out there with anything you all have found?

Use chat gpt thinking mode (paid model). plug in your current routine and then tell it in detail your age, symptoms, fatigue, issues, etc. it's amazing how well it's got my routine dialed in at 53 .. lots of little tweaks thats really helped me... I was actually overtraining and causing me problems. I don't think any of the apps will help you. I personally use Hevy app for tracking, and it's been great to export my data and let chat gpt analyze it. JMO

I don't think you need a special fitness routine because of your age. If you don't have any injuries or pain than no need to switch up your routine just because of your age. Based on your post it sounds more like your body ability to recover has diminished. Try taking a weeklong deload from lifting and gauge your mood, fatigue and recover along that time. Also, try reducing your overall weekly volume of working sets. We don't need much hard working sets to keep ourselves healthy and functional. Hope this helps 💪

Try the Liftosaur app, I’m over 50 and it’s pretty simple

Not sure if there's anything specific to that.

I'm sneaking up on 50 and I've noticed it's been more about managing my weights, overall volume, and allowing adequate recovery.

I'm coming off running some 531 programs and kept my training maxes intentionally low.

It usually recommends to use about 90% of your 1 rep max, I went 70-75%.

Kept me fresh and still making progress throughout.

Liftosaur and Boostcamp are good apps. Liftvault if you don't mind using spreadsheets.

wait until you hit 69, shit can go south very quickly. I try to get in a 3 mile walk daily plus some lite resistance band or kettle ball exercises.

I use Lyfta app which is simple (need simple because of age) and shows everything you need to know about the excersises in detail and there are so many to choose from. Then I brainstorm with my AI and builds a setup for the day. The app keeps track of your progress and which muscle groups are ready and which needs rest.
